Joint Research meeting with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

Last 21st of February 2017, the Center for Computational Simulation (CCS) hosted the first joint meeting with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. A group of researchers from the BSC, chaired by the Directors of BSC, Prof. Mateo Valero and Josep Martorell, met key researchers of the CCS at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The meeting, aimed at finding and creating research synergies between both research centers, was opened by the Vice Chancellor of Research of the UPM, Prof. Asunción Gómez. The team from BSC, formed also by PI researchers from the Computer Sciences and CASE departments, discussed some of the research areas of common interest with the CCS with the purpose of setting up future collaborations. The speakers from the BSC and CCS –coming from some of the different Universities (UPM, URJC, UAM, UCM) taking part in the CCS– presented a summary of the work done in both Centers in areas ranging from Computational Fluid dynamics, computational astrophysics, data mining and visualization.

Both teams felt very pleased with the outcome of the workshop and we are already working on the mechanisms to facilitate this collaboration.

Once again, CCS would like to thank BSC for their time and effort in coming to Madrid, as well as their willingness to work together.
